Summary: Introduction: The Quality of Life of people with tuberculosis can be affected in
several different dimensions beyond the impact of the disease, and a therapeutic
management centred on the subject is paramount. Objective: To analyse the
Quality of Life of people in treatment for tuberculosis in the Metropolitan Region of
the State of Espirito Santo, Brazil, and verify the internal consistency of the Quality
of Life Short Form-36 tool for this public. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study
done at the level of primary care in municipalities of the Metropolitan Region of the
State of Espirito Santo from August 2019 to March 2020. Socio-demographic and
clinical data was collected, as well as an interview using the questionnaire Quality of
Life Short Form-36. Results: The sample of 88 individuals was composed in its
majority by the male gender (66%), black (84%), persons in active labour age (41
±17 years), single marital status (50%), unemployed (62%), with a family income of
up to 3 minimum wages (73%), pertaining to the socio-economic classes C (55%),
D and E (33%). The averages of Quality of Life found were those of 63.0 in general
state, 61.0 in functional capacity, 36.6 in physical Aspects, 57.8 in pain, 46.5 in
emotional aspects, 52.8 in social Aspects, 49.0 in vitality, and 61.0 in mental health.
The alfa of Cronbach coefficient was 0.882 in the internal consistency analysis, and
the Pearson correlations were linear, positive, middle and strong for most of the
aspects. Conclusion: The Quality of Life was mostly impacted in the domains of the
Mental Component. The disease has socio-economic determinants that my interfere
in the Quality of Life, and the Short Form-36 questionnaire showed evidence of
reliability that warrant its performance in the measurement of a specific population.
